Personal Statement:
I will bring 31 years of successful trial experience in State and Federal Courts to the job of District Attorney. Unlike the current D.A., I plan to actively try cases. I have tried hundreds of cases and dozens of criminal jury trials. We desperately need an experienced litigator who can mentor new assistants and improve the trial record and reputation of the office. I have served as Justice of the Peace since 1996, with authority to issue search warrants, arrest warrants and other criminal process. The Maine State Troopers, Maine Association of Police, Maine State Law Enforcement Association and Fraternal Order of Police all recruited me to serve as their critical incident response attorney where I respond state-wide to represent officers involved in use-of-deadly-force incidents. I am a former State Law Enforcement Officer, graduate of Vermont Police Academy, Airline Captain and Flight Instructor. I worked in the U.S. Court of Appeals (Tenth Circuit) before entering private practice, and I have been an active partner at Acadia Law Group and Roy, Beardsley, Williams & Granger in Ellsworth since 1995. I am running as an independent because partisanship should not have any role in criminal charging decisions or in making sentencing recommendations.
