Statement: Sherman H. Hutchins is running for a third term in the House of Representatives.
Sherman is a 10th generation Maine native and has been married to his wife, Patty, for 54 years. Their three children have raised their families in Maine with 10 grandchildren and two great-grandsons (one arriving in August). Sherm worked at Pratt and Whitney right after college as a draftsman, but returned within a year to establish a construction business, which he operated for more than 25 years. Hutchins served as a Select Board member in his home town for 11 years, has moderated town meetings in many towns over the past 30 years. He served in the House of Representatives in the 1990s and is currently representing House District 131 — the towns of Dedham, Otis, Orland, Penobscot, Prospect, Stockton Springs and Verona Island. Due to redistricting, Sherman’s third term in the House, if elected, will include the towns of Bucksport, Orland, Penobscot and Verona Island.
Sherm asks for your support to help restore Maine with commonsense values and goals. Examples of constituents’ concerns include: integrity at the ballot box; a parent and taxpayer education bill of rights; traditional Maine industries of farming, fishing and forestry; health care privacy rights and responsibilities; respect and support for first responders; adherence to the U.S. Constitution and to the Constitution of the State of Maine.
